Description

A beautiful, functional object for use, the humble teapot has at times been elevated to a vehicle for whimsy, humour, politics, great design and a symbol of status.

Often considered the Everest of the potter’s craft – immensely challenging to approach and infinitely satisfy to conquer- it’s multiple components and functional demands require focused consideration and attention to detail.

They can also be great fun to make when you have time on your side and guidance at hand.

In this weekend workshop Sophie will share her knowledge and experience of making teapots with demonstrations and individual assistance to participants. Day one will focus on throwing development with the creation of teapot bodies, galleries, lids, spouts and handles. Day two will look at the intricacies of teapot construction and alternative designs and ideas.

There will be discussion about function and design practicalities, glazing and decorating possibilities and the importance of personal creative expression.

This workshop is designed for students with intermediate throwing experience. (centring clay is required)
