Description

Take your throwing skills to the next level with John Stroomer in this course designed for Intermediate to Advanced potters. Over two days of intense group and individual hands on tuition John will share his expertise and teach you how to throw precisely and resolve those self-limiting bad habits and techniques.

Get the basics right and the rest will follow. If you have difficulty moving forward with your throwing skills this is the workshop that will teach you what it takes to create a pot with exquisite balance and form. (Participants should be able to centre and draw up a cylinder).

COURSE COVERS

  • Clay preparation/wedging

  • Structure of a pot

  • What it takes to make precision pots

  • Course instruction is tailored to your skill level and individual needs to help you move forward as a potter

  • Advanced throwing techniques and tips using ribs and various throwing/turning tools

  • Pots in sections/Joining Techniques/Use of Bats/Gas Torches

Things to note:

  • BYO Stoneware clay – Due to the nature of the course participants need to supply their own clay as we want to work with clays that you normally use. While this course is a skill based course and not production based bisque firing is available for selected work if needed. Blackwattle white, Blackwattle natural speckled or extra speckled can be purchased at the course
  • Tools & equipment are provided (You may also bring your own throwing tools).
  • Your favourite pieces can be taken home for your own firings/glazing processes.  If you need firing you are welcome to use our firing service at $15 per kg.

Location:  EBC studio – Rd, Fyansford Paper Mills, 100 Lower Paper Mills Fyansford.

Date & Times:  Saturday June 1st & Sunday June 2nd – 10am-5pm both days.
BYO Lunch & snacks, morning tea/coffee provided.

  • Please choose the time and date carefully. We do not offer refunds. 
  • Please DO NOT come to the class if you are unwell – you will be asked to leave if you are sick and no refund will be issued.
  • This class is only available for adults.
  • A minimum of 6 students is required for this class to go ahead. You will be contacted if the class cannot go ahead. A Maximum of 8.
  • Wear clothes that you don’t mind if they get a little messy – please bring an apron or towel and don’t forget to wear closed-toe shoes!
  • Long nails can very easily damage your work and make it difficult to create!
  • Your beautiful handmade item will be ready for collection around 4-6 weeks after the class. If you cannot collect, we can arrange to ship for $15.00.
  • Please arrive on time (or let me know if you will be early/late!). Late arrivals will forfeit will that portion of their class.
  • Please also wear weather appropriate clothing however I do have heaters and cooling available if required.
  • We do take photographs during some of our workshops and these photographs may be shared as content on our website and social media platforms. If you do not wish to have your photograph taken and shared please let us know in advance before the workshop begins.
