Description

This is the perfect class for students who are interested in learning hand-building in greater depth than a taster class. You might be a complete beginner or have a basic knowledge and are wanting to reconnect with clay. Smaller classes afford you more time so we can work at your own pace or on a specific item you would like to create. There will be a maximum of 8 in this class with a minimum requirement of 4 persons for the class to go ahead.

The class typically begins with an introduction to the properties of clay, including its texture, plasticity, and drying process. You will then learn how to prepare and wedge the clay, which involves kneading it to remove air bubbles and create a consistent texture.

You will be taught a range of hand-building techniques, such as pinch pot, coil building, and slab construction. These techniques allow you to create a variety of forms, from cups and bowls to sculptures and figurines.

By the end of the class, you will have developed a strong understanding of the materials and techniques involved in pottery hand-building. You will have also created a collection of unique and personal pieces that showcase your creativity and newly acquired skills.

You will learn to:

  • Prepare the clay
  • Make beautiful shapes such as cylinders, platters, bowls, and vases.
  • Attach handles or make spouts
  • Explore decorating such as applying slips, underglazes, texture and carving.
  • Glaze application

Venue: Elizabeth Bell Ceramics FYANSFORD – Site 10, 100 Lower Paper Mills Rd, Fyansford (Inside the Fyansford Paper Mills, Between the Door Cafe and the Gallery)

This class will be run by Rylie Jabornik
