Description
Introducing our latest advanced workshop: Raku Glazing and Firing!
Discover the unique Japanese firing method called Raku. Leave with your own raku-fired pottery pieces and a smile on your face, having enjoyed this fulfilling process.
Daily Procedure:
- 9:00 am: Brief talk on glazing, followed by glazing pots for the first firing and loading the kiln.
- While the kiln heats, participants will glaze pots for the second firing.
- Once the kiln reaches temperature, pots will be removed using tongs and placed into reduction bins filled with torn newspaper and sawdust, resulting in flame and smoke. Participants are encouraged to bring natural materials (feathers, leaves…) to fire with their pieces. After approximately 10 minutes, pots will be transferred to cold water and cleaned with provided wipes.
- The process will be repeated for the second firing, aiming to conclude by 4:00 pm.
Event Details:
Participants are required to bring 2-4 pieces of pottery, each the size of a 10cm cube (equivalent to a large cup/small vase), already bisque fired. If space permits, attendees may have the opportunity to fire an additional pieces on the day.
For those interested, additional bisque fired pieces can be purchased from Ray or Elizabeth (from $5).
Morning coffee/tea will be provided, please BYO lunch.
