Description

Join us for a focused, hands-on workshop exploring various techniques behind throwing taller and throwing wider with efficiency and ease. Designed for intermediate and advanced throwers, this session will guide you through ergonomic, body-conscious approaches to scaling up your forms without strain. Attention to weight in larger forms is what some ceramic enthusiasts measure the level of craftsmanship one has, believing it to be true that if throwing large you will want to throw thin; tackling this challenge will take place alongside scaling up techniques. Forms to be considered: wide platters and bowls along with tall cylinders and various forms that derive from cylinders such as Moon Jars, large jugs, and vases.

The beauty of large-scale work lies in its simplicity in my personal work—quiet, powerful forms with subtle curves and shifts in shape—creating a blank canvas for decoration and surface treatment. Drawing from over 13 years of experience, I’ll share methods to achieve greater volume on the wheel while protecting your body and refining your technique.

What is included;

  • Tools & equipment (You may also bring your own throwing tools)
  • 6 Hour Class Time – Lunch break included in this time
  • Morning tea/coffee (BYO lunch or snacks – we also have a cafe onsite that does a great toasty!)

Not included;

  • Clay.    You can purchase on on the day, or BYO.  This is so that you can work with the clay that you are most familiar to get your best results.   If you BYO clay or purchase, you can take home all your items from the workshop and any clay leftover.  You must take these pieces home on the day – we do not offer storage. We stock Bennett’s Unfiltered & Blackwattle Natural Speckle.
