Description
From bowl to sculpture. Learn how to transform a simple form into an expressive, functional vessel with Jem Vander Noord
Elizabeth Bell Ceramics is thrilled to welcome Jem Vander Noord for a hands-on masterclass exploring the space where functional ceramics meet sculptural form.
The session begins at the EBC Fyansford studio with a cup of tea or coffee before Jem introduces his creative practice and the ideas that shape his work. Together we will explore clay as a responsive, expressive material, discussing how form, texture and movement can transform a simple vessel into something personal and unique.
Working with a simple bowl as your starting point, Jem will demonstrate techniques for pushing, altering and reshaping clay beyond its expected form. Through hands-on making and guided demonstrations, you will experiment with creating expressive surfaces and sculptural silhouettes while learning how to balance function with artistic expression.
Throughout the class, Jem will share insights into his approach to making, encouraging curiosity, confidence and play. While inspired by his own process, the focus is on developing your own creative voice and discovering new possibilities within clay.
By the end of the workshop, you will have created a one-of-a-kind sculptural vessel and gained practical techniques to continue exploring at home. Whether you are new to ceramics or looking to expand your making practice, you will leave with fresh inspiration and a new perspective on what clay can become.
