Description

In this engaging and hands-on workshop, you will have the opportunity to unleash your creativity and bring your designs to life using the art of sgraffito. Our experienced instructor will guide you through the process of layering black underglaze on white clay and carving intricate patterns, textures, and illustrations.

During the workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of sgraffito, a decorative technique that involves applying underglaze to leather-hard clay and then carefully carving away sections to reveal the contrasting clay beneath. This method allows you to create striking, high-contrast designs that are both bold and delicate.

You will explore various carving tools and techniques to achieve different effects, from fine, detailed linework to expressive, textured patterns. Whether you prefer abstract motifs, floral designs, or intricate illustrations, this workshop will give you the skills and confidence to decorate your pottery in a truly unique and personal way.

To make the experience even more enjoyable, you may choose to bring your own alcoholic beverages (BYO alcohol). Sipping on your favourite drink while engaging in the creative process can add a relaxed and social atmosphere to the workshop. Please note that participants must be of legal drinking age and consume alcohol responsibly.

Your pieces (a medium plate and a jewellery dish) from the workshop will be finished, glazed and ready for collection around 4 weeks after the class. Shipping can be arranged at your expense, generally around $15.00.

This workshop will be hosted and taught by Jessica Jones
