Description
This production pottery class is designed for those who want to take their pottery skills to the next level and focus on creating multiple pieces with consistency and efficiency. In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of production pottery, including essential techniques for making uniform pieces, refining forms, and building speed without sacrificing quality.
Key topics include:
- Clay Preparation and Consistency: Mastering clay weighing and centering techniques for uniformity in size and shape.
- Form and Function: Understanding how to design and throw functional pieces like bowls, mugs, or plates with precision.
- Tool Mastery: Utilising tools, such as ribs and trimming tools, to perfect the shape and finish of each piece.
- Efficiency Techniques: Tips on streamlining processes to make production faster and more enjoyable.
Each week, students will gain hands-on experience in refining their pottery skills while creating their own small batch of pieces, perfecting each form. This class is ideal for intermediate to advanced students who want to explore the demands and rewards of production pottery in a supportive, collaborative environment.
This workshop is purely about upskilling and expanding on your pre-existing techniques in order to achieve new heights and advanced forms on the wheel. As this is an advanced class, basic Wheel Throwing experience is required, you should be able to centre a minimum of 500g of clay but you don’t need to be a professional to join. It is first and foremost a learning experience where you will be cutting in half and assessing your work.
These are the goals:

- Creating consistent forms.
- Throwing thinner and using clay more sustainably.
